What to Do When You Feel Insecure
Are you ready to lose that overwhelming sense that “something must be wrong with me” and learn, instead, to embrace this HSP gift God’s given you? The Sensitive & Strong Community Cafe is now open to new members!
You know what it’s like when you feel as if the rug has been yanked out from under you?
That’s how I felt recently when I discovered that something I’d been counting on wasn’t going to come through.
This news sent me reeling. I felt as though my safety net was ripped away, with no warning.
My HSP heart was overwhelmed by …
… all the changes to process!
… all the emotions to metabolize!
… all the people to consider!
What to Do
The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart:
Read Psalm 18.
At first, I resisted. “I already know Psalm 18 by heart. It’s my go-to chapter. With my go-to verse: Psalm 18:19.”
The Holy Spirit impressed me again:
Read Psalm 18.
Again, I dismissed. “I’ve read it a thousand times. I’m not going to find anything new that wasn’t there before.”
One more time, I felt compelled:
Read Psalm 18.
In begrudging obedience, I opened my Bible to Psalm 18.
Where I read:
“I love you, Lord, my strength.”
Right there, at the start of my go-to chapter, I re-read this truth anew:
“I love you, Lord, my strength.”
In the midst of feeling totally blind-sided by yet another disappointment, these familiar-yet-fresh words — from The Word — were a balm for the bruises on my heart:
“I love you, Lord, my strength.”
That thing I’d been counting on? It was merely an illusion of control, not an actual source of strength.
You Are Secure
My real source of strength — the strong in Sensitive and Strong — is always Jesus, the unchanging One …
… who can never ever be ripped away with no warning.
… who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
… who is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer … in whom I take refuge … my stronghold (Psalm 18:2).
When I feel like the rug has been yanked out from under me, Jesus is my go-to.
And he’s yours, too.
(Even when we forget, it’s still true!)
